Christianity and Emotional Health

I haven't given up on this blog!

So I wanted to share this sermon series about emotional health. I think this series is really great and thought-provoking whether you are Christian or not.

I do want to point out though that I don't necessarily identify myself as Christian. I don't take the Bible literally but I believe in the metaphors because I don't think the details are really that important. I do try to go to church whenever I have time and I'll listen to the sermons online.

For those of you who aren't Christian and might have a hard time listening to something you don't necessarily believe in, here's a few pointers in the way I look at the messages:

I believe that God is an accumulation of ALL things in the universe. I see God not as "someone in charge" but more like the natural forces/physics laws in which the way things happen (like in evolution).

Jesus represents forgiveness, love and understanding.

When they talk about the Gospel and God, I see it as how people believe that the universe works to help you achieve love, happiness, and peace of mind if you are actively working towards it. Like your family and friends and all the people that affect your life in ways that you aren't even aware of.

I believe that sin is our own egos. When we think we know better or want things a certain way so we try to control the situations and people in our life when we can't. Which is what causes us to be hurtful to others because we put what we want above all else.

Believing that God and Jesus forgives us for our sins is to recognize our own egos and how we're not better than anyone else. But not accepting that we can't control everything is basically putting yourself through Hell... while accepting Jesus (forgiveness, understanding) gives you that peace of mind and is "how you get to" Heaven.

I'm still going on this journey of figuring out where and how God fits in my life so I'll be writing and sharing more in future posts.

Thanks for reading!
